  Man of Adventure

THE SHORT VERSION:

Tom Steffen looks like a sane person, but don't judge a book by its cover. His off-kilter outlook on life keeps audiences laughing for more. After almost two decades as a successful radio personality and total theatre geek, Tom decided to plunge into a new area of show business and began his comedy career in 2002. He performs in clubs and other venues around the country, was a 2007 regional contender in Comedy Central's Open Mic Fight Contest, and more recently, he was a featured performer at the 2009 CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival. On stage, Tom shares the goofy adventures he finds in everyday living, from his days spent toiling away in his cubicle at his "day job," to the absurd and bizarre things to be found in the seemingly ordinary art of conversation.  All the while, Tom always manages to find a fresh take on the world around us that is sure to entertain any audience.

THE LONG VERSION:

He was born in southern Minnesota, grew up in a small town in western Wisconsin, and now lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Not a life of adventure? Tom begs to differ. Adventure is a matter of attitude. Try being a kid in the 70s, then do high school in the early 80s, then go back to college in the 90s. What a ride, and he has been writing and performing in various ways the whole time. After spending his high school years active in speech, music, and theatre, Tom embarked on a 12-year radio career that took him all the way to Kentucky, where he spent 6 years being goofy for money and soaking up southern culture. His most recent radio adventure was as part of the fun but short-lived MoFo Morning show on B-96 in Minneapolis. Realizing there was more show biz to be explored, Tom returned to River Falls, Wisconsin to attend college as a "non-traditional" student (also known as old). At UW-RF he renewed his interest in writing and performing in live theatre and sketch comedy and had a big time doing it. He even spent a couple of years as part of The Cromulent Shakespeare Company as a member of the board of directors and a recurring cast member. Now the newest adventure begins as Tom has taken the plunge into the arena of stand-up comedy by writing and performing his own brand of "highbrow observational comedy," as it's been described, since 2002. In Tom's world, any life can be an adventure if you only allow it to be.  Have fun, make friends, forget about fear or regret, and most importantly, take the time to notice all the bizarre things around you and be amused by them.  Tom's only too happy to point them out to you while sharing some of his own freaky adventures.  And he's always on the lookout for new ones.  So settle in, grab a cocktail (feel free to buy him one too), and feel the adventure!
